BACKGROUND

Youth in Tanzania form a large and highly motivated workforce in the development of the country. However, this group faces various challenges including unemployment. It is estimated that there are 13 percent of young people between the ages of 15 and 34 who are unemployed in the country. Following the growth of the problem of unemployment for young people and especially for university graduates, many young people are on the streets and do not know what to do and some have indulged in bad deeds . Some of them are trying to start a small business but they are not successful due to lack of knowledge, skills and proper attitude, and others are not assertive or even fail to recognize the opportunities around them. Many young people have also failed to turn the challenges around them into opportunities, instead they continue to complain to the government, especially in not providing employment opportunities

Many young people have also failed to turn the challenges around them into opportunities, instead they continue to complain to the government, especially in not providing employment opportunities.

The Tanzanian government has made great efforts in recent years to pay attention to the whole issue of empowering young
people through its development strategies and plans including the Five Year National Development Plan, the National Vision 2025, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ) and various regional and international strategies and agreements. Likewise,
there have been efforts to have various policies and laws friendly to youth issues and youth participation. Guidelines and
budget documents are also focused on the youth group. Recently, for example, the government issued a document asking local
governments to allocate 4 percent of their income for empowering young people.

All these efforts are intended to help all the young people in the country who are the largest workforce of the nation to participate in the industrial economy through agriculture, breeding, fishing and various economic activities.

In support of these efforts made by the Government of Tanzania, CKD on 19/08/2019 started the implementation of an
entrepreneurship training program and business start-up for young people who have graduated from higher education who
want to be self-employed. This training which was officially launched on 21/08/2019 by the Minister in the Office of
the Prime Minister, Hon. Jenista Mhagama (MB) cost about TShs. 217 million which was financed by one hundred percent
by CDK using its internal funds. The prognosis for CKD is that training is not expected to be provided every year during the eight week period from July to October.
